About Shawn

Shawn was born in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan, but raised on the west coast in a town called Parksville, British Columbia. Secluded in a tiny community that was vastly isolated from the rest of the country, Shawn was forced to explore his passion of computer/video games, and pop-culture by himself. Growing up on Sonic the Hedgehog and Twin Peaks, he spent his days learning programming languages and listening to video game soundtracks. As the years progressed, his love of Street Fighter II and assembling computers never waned.

By the late nineties, Shawn had found true love, moved to the United States of America, and planted himself firmly in the corporate machine. By day, he plugged away at his computer terminal, building websites and embracing technology. By night, he blew away terrorists in Counter-Strike, slew demons in Diablo, and pieced together software pulled off the Usenet in PAR files. But whether he was participating in LAN parties and wrestling raiders in World of Warcraft, or teaching a customer how to use a Content Management System, Shawn had to deal with people on a daily basis. And he began to see a pattern. While his nerd-like colleagues would remain shrouded in their caves, Shawn would continually be plucked to speak to the customer himself. Somehow, he had a knack for communicating with those not of his own kind, those muggles who weren't necessarily privy to the bleeding edge of something so vastly obscure and technical as a...web site.

Today, Shawn continues to bridge that gap on a daily basis. He not only continues to star projects on GitHub, follow people on Twitter, and root his phone, he is able to have a candid conversation with non-tech people, free of that traditional sarcastic condescension that is unfortunately all-too present when a nerd feels he has to "dumb down the conversation". Shawn yearns for a world where nerds and normals can one day live together in peace and harmony.
